7th to 19th July 2018.
Tour Status: ***Available for booking***

This tour visits the French Alps including some time spent in the "Pre Alps" of the Vercors Massif which is famous for it's "Gallery Roads" which are cut into the limestone cliffs forming the sides of the river gorges of the area. We will be staying in Briancon on Bastille Day which is a national holiday. There is an open air concert and firework display in Briancon to celebrate this and we will be staying close to the area where it all takes place.

The tour starts in the afternoon of Saturday 7th July 2018 in Hull convenient to the overnight Hull to Zeebrugge ferry which will take us to the continent. There will be a group travelling from Northern Ireland leaving Larne on the 0730hrs ferry on Saturday morning for our Irish customers wishing to travel across to Hull to join the tour.

We will get to know each other on the ferry and arrive in Belguim on Sunday morning ready to get the first day under our belts. Our first nights hotel is in the Champagne region of France close to Troyes, weather permitting we will visit one of the Somme battlefield sites on the way.  On Monday we continue south towards Grenoble and the stunning Vercors Massif rising high above the surrounding countryside. The first two days include some Peage, (Motorway with tolls), but this saves a day getting us to the Vercors area as quickly as possible.

The Vercors Massif is a beautiful and unspoiled area of impressive limestone mountains and river gorges with a variety of roads from lovely sweeping, well surfaced twisties to daring narrow mountain roads cut into the sides of cliffs. We spend four nights in the Vercors Massif.

There will be a ride-out each day to explore this beautiful area as well as to the nearby Chartreuse Massif. The hotel will host a BBQ for us on one of the nights and evening meals are included in the price for the other three nights here.

Gallery road, Vercors Massif.

From the Vercors we head east to the High French Alps by way of some of the famous alpine passes whose names will be familiar to those of you who follow the Tour de France... Col du Glandon, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Télégraphe and Col du Galibier. We spend three nights in Briançon which is allegedly Europe’s highest town and also the sunniest town in France. Briançon was a fortified town and our hotel is well placed to allow the old town with it’s quaint streets, shops, cafes and restaurants to be explored at ease. On the Saturday there will be a full day ride-out to cross some of the highest mountain passes in Europe at heights of well over 2000 metres on superb motorcycling roads, returning to our hotel in plenty of time to get ready to join in the Bastille Day celebrations and firework display at the nearby citadel. Sunday is a rest day to allow you to enjoy the area at your leisure after the festivities of Saturday night and to prepare for the long journey home.

A few miles from Briançon

After Briançon we will spend 3 days travelling back through rural France on some fantastic biking roads, through quaint villages and country towns, the wine producing regions of Burgundy and Champagne to Belgium and the ferries back to the UK.

Col du Galibier, French Alps.

The tour price includes return ferry crossing from Hull to the continent. All hotels and continental breakfasts are included, as are 2 nights in cabins on the ferry to and from Belgium and 4 evening meals in the Vercors. You will need to pay for your own breakfast on the ferry. There is a full daily itinerary along with the services of a tour manager/leader for the duration of the tour.

If you are one of our Irish customers we can book the extra ferry required for you at cost. To get to Hull in time to join the tour you will need to get the 0730hrs ferry from Larne to Cairnryan on Saturday morning. There will be a feeder group travelling on this ferry. The return ferry will be the 1630hrs from Cairnryan on Thursday 19th July.

Passports will be required by all participants for this tour, (to be valid for at least six months after the return date of the tour). if you hold a non UK or Ireland passport you may also need a visa, check with your passport issuing authority for current situation.

Solo rider, sharing room  £1195.
Solo rider single occupancy  £1695.
Rider and pillion sharing room  £2295 (per couple on 1 bike).

This tour will require touring experience as we expect to cover in excess of 2500 miles on a variety of roads during the course of the tour. There will be some Autoroute miles with tolls to allow us to have as much time as possible in the two areas where we will be based.

These prices are current at time of publishing (October 2017). The ferry price will increase nearer to the date of travel so an adjustment may be necessary. We will absorb up to 2% increase but will have to add a surcharge if there are any increases above that. Book early to avoid additional expense.

A deposit of £250 per person along with a completed booking form will secure your place on this tour. The balance will be required 2 months before the tour start date. Partial payments during the months before final payment due date are welcome too. Please read our terms and conditions here.
